Enslaved, a six-part Canadian docuseries, hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, seeks to uncover the history of of the transatlantic slave trade through underwater archaeology by searching for sunken slave ships that went down with their human cargo.

Jackson is a licensed scuba diver and social rights activist, and his own ancestors come from Gabon in West Africa. “For me, this is much more than a TV series” said Jackson “Enslaved is an attempt to give a voice to the millions whose voices were silenced.”

The docuseries coincides with the 400-year anniversary of the first African brought to the New World as a slave, and will retrace the harrowing sea voyage that brought millions to a life of enslavement.
